Most employers ask candidates to apply using a Jobs Go Public account. Creating an account lets you save applications and receive job alerts.

The supporting statement is your opportunity to tell us more about your specific skills, knowledge and experience, and how these meet the needs of the role. We recommend looking at the job description and person specification and explaining how you meet each requirement.

The job description explains the key tasks and activities you'd be expected to carry out. It won't cover everything, but should give a good summary of what the role involves. The person specification sets out the qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience you should have to do the job. Where a job role profile is included, this gives a more holistic overview of the role and the skills required.

No, your current school won't know that you've applied for another job unless you choose to tell them. However, you should include your current or most recent employer as a referee, so it's a good idea to let them know you're applying.

Contact the employer listed on the vacancy directly to withdraw your application. If you're not sure who to contact, email support@jobsgopublic.com and we'll help point you in the right direction.

Vacancy queries should be directed to the employer listed on the job advert. They can provide details about the role, team, and application process.

If there are no contact details on the advert, please check the employer’s website for the most appropriate contact.

Please let us know and we’ll investigate. Email support@jobsgopublic.com with the vacancy link and a short description of the problem.

Every vacancy has a closing date, and once this has passed the job is removed from the site. We'd recommend applying as soon as you see a role you're interested in, so you don't miss out.

Save a search to receive email alerts when new roles match your criteria. You can manage your alert frequency and preferences in your account.

You can sign up at the bottom of any page on the site. Just enter your name and email address in the "Get our vacancy bulletin" section and click Subscribe. This is a general newsletter covering vacancies across Cheshire, separate from job alerts for a specific search.

Every bulletin email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom, just click this to stop receiving future emails. If you have any trouble, you can also contact support@jobsgopublic.com and we'll unsubscribe you.

Some Cheshire schools use a talent pool to keep in touch with candidates for future opportunities. Once you've registered your interest, there's nothing more you need to do — you'll receive email notifications whenever a suitable opportunity comes up. If you no longer wish to be part of a talent pool, you can update your preferences at any time in your account.

References are normally taken up before you attend an interview, in line with Safer Recruitment principles.

Safer Recruitment is a framework of policies and practices designed to ensure that individuals working with children and young people are suitable and safe. It's a critical part of safeguarding in schools, complementing Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) legislation.

If you're offered a job in a school, this will be subject to pre-employment checks as part of a conditional offer. These typically include satisfactory references, a medical questionnaire, and a DBS plus Barred List check. Teachers will also be checked for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), and those working with children in a support role — particularly in early years — will be checked to confirm they aren't disqualified from working with children. A full list of pre-employment checks can be found in the KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education) statutory guidance.

A DBS check is a Disclosure and Barring Service check, which allows an employer to check whether an individual has a criminal record. There are different types of check for different jobs, and not all jobs are eligible to be checked.

Within a school environment, most roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check plus a Barred List check. This means that before working in a school, we'd need to confirm whether you have any relevant criminal convictions, cautions or reprimands, and that you're not barred from working with children.

QTS is required to teach in a local authority maintained school, and is awarded by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), or the Education Workforce Council if awarded in Wales. Most teaching posts require QTS, though some schools also welcome applications from those working towards it, or from qualified teachers with equivalent overseas qualifications. Check the person specification on each vacancy for the exact requirements.

ECT stands for Early Career Teacher — a teacher who has not yet completed their statutory induction period.

Yes. Many Cheshire schools recruit supply teachers directly, as well as through agencies, to cover short-term absence or specific projects. We don't hold a central list of supply teachers, so we'd recommend either contacting a school directly, or registering with a recruitment agency that provides supply teaching.

You'll be asked to provide confirmation that you're eligible to work in the UK when invited to interview, and again if you're appointed to the role. A UK passport is one suitable document — for full guidance see gov.uk: proving your right to work.

The main difference is funding and freedoms: an academy receives its funding directly from central government, while a maintained school receives funding via the local authority. Academies currently have more freedom than maintained schools to set their own curriculum and employ staff on their own terms and conditions.

Some schools have chosen to adopt the Real Living Wage, which sets a minimum hourly rate for all work that's independently calculated based on the cost of living.

Many school roles are less than 37 hours a week, or work less than a full year due to school holidays — also called term-time only, or TTO. Where a job advert shows a salary as pro-rata, this means the salary has been adjusted to reflect working less than full-time or less than a full year, and statutory holiday pay is included within this.

Teachers are members of the Teachers' Pension Scheme, while most support staff and business professionals in schools are members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Both are valuable defined benefit schemes offering a guaranteed, lifelong income, protection against inflation, and generous employer contributions.

See Jobs Go Public's pension calculator for an estimate of how you could benefit from being a member of a public sector pension scheme.
