Permanent | Grade 4 | 32.5 hours per week | 38 weeks per year

The Headteacher and Governors of Hermitage Primary School are seeking an experienced, caring and enthusiastic teaching assistant to join our welcoming school in the heart of Holmes Chapel. We want to hear about the interests, strengths and talents you could bring to Team Hermitage, alongside your experience of supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Our mission is for every child to thrive. Through high standards, excellent care and enriching opportunities, we help children develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and character to flourish. Our thrive values of Teamwork, Helpfulness, Resilience, Innovation, Value All and Excellence shape how we learn, work and care for one another.

About the role

Working closely with class teachers, teaching assistants and the SENCO, you will support children’s learning, independence and emotional wellbeing. You will provide classroom support, work 1:1 with pupils with SEND and deliver targeted interventions under the guidance of the class teacher. You will help children overcome barriers, build confidence and participate fully in school life.

We are looking for someone who combines a calm, nurturing approach with high expectations for every child. Knowledge of phonics is essential. Experience of delivering or supporting Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) interventions and pastoral support programmes would be an advantage.

Your contribution

  • Provide thoughtful support for children’s learning and physical, emotional and social development.
  • Adapt support to individual needs, helping pupils access learning and develop increasing independence.
  • Deliver planned daily interventions and share observations of progress with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children and work in partnership with parents and carers.
  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and engaging environment where every child feels valued.
  • Embrace the wider life of the school, supporting children’s mental and physical wellbeing and enriching their learning.

The full responsibilities are set out in the accompanying job description.

What we are looking for

You will be an experienced and well-qualified teaching assistant with a strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of children. You will bring our values to life through:

  • Teamwork: working positively with colleagues and families to give children consistent support.
  • Helpfulness: responding thoughtfully to children’s needs and contributing to school life.
  • Resilience: staying calm, patient and encouraging when children face challenges.
  • Innovation: using creative approaches, under teacher guidance, to remove barriers to learning.
  • Value All: respecting each child’s strengths, identity and needs, and promoting belonging.
  • Excellence: maintaining high expectations, reflecting on your practice and continuing to develop your skills.

What we can offer

  • A welcoming school community with a family feel and a shared commitment to every child.
  • A supportive, experienced team that values your contribution.
  • Regular continuing professional development and opportunities to develop your practice.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a thriving primary school.
  • Excellent facilities and grounds that support learning and wider experiences.
