Job Summary

Salary: Grade 5 SCP 7
Hours: 32.5
Weeks: 39 weeks (includes inset days)

Reporting to: Executive Headteacher and Head of School
Responsible for: Supporting Teaching and Learning in our SEMH resource base

Role Introduction

Supporting the teacher with the delivery of lessons and assisting with the running of our SEMH resource provision, offering support to individuals or small groups. Your role will play a key part in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, preparing materials, supervising students during various activities, and aiding with administrative tasks. The Teaching Assistant role is key to enhancing engagement, behaviour, and student progress.  

Responsibilities

Supporting Learning & Teaching:

  • Assist the teacher in preparing and delivering engaging lessons
  • Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce learning
  • The postholder works under the direction and supervision of the class teacher and senior staff and does not carry responsibility for curriculum planning or assessment decisions
  • Deliver targeted and structured interventions (for example phonics, reading, numeracy or social communication programmes) with individuals or small groups, following plans provided by the teacher or SENCo
  • Monitor pupil engagement and outcomes within interventions and provide feedback to the teacher or SENCo, in line with agreed procedures
  • Support pupils in a way that promotes independence, confidence and resilience, encouraging them to develop self‑help strategies and reducing support appropriately over time
  • Foster positive attitudes to learning and help pupils to regulate their own behaviour and engagement
  • Help to assess and track student progress, providing feedback to the teacher.

Classroom Support & Management:

  • Encourage positive behaviour and maintain a safe learning environment
  • Set up and organise classroom resources and learning materials
  • Provide supervision and assistance during lunch breaks, playtimes, and school trips
  • Promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all students.

 

Administrative Duties:

  • Support teachers with marking and preparing learning materials
  • Maintain records of student progress and behaviour when required
  • Assist in the preparation of classroom displays and resources.

Pastoral & Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Support children’s emotional and social development
  • Follow safeguarding procedures to ensure student well-being
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professional
  • Where required, provide support for pupils’ personal care and medical needs where required, in line with individual care plans, training received, and school policies.

Health and Safety:

  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils, and help to safeguard pupils’ wellbeing by following the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and our school’s child protection policy
